Commodore Cup- All boats fish the same area. Sunday 28th March 2010

Two comps in one month.... what ever next!!Another good turn out with 23 anglers full of enthusiasm, Despite the marginal forecast. After consultation majority of anglers wanted to fish the east road area. After a brief safety announcement all the boats set off... but it was not 30knot weather condition!!

Fishing was tough, with Andrew Fisher taking the top spot with a respectable 6 fish for 19lb 2oz (which was apparently a pouting more than Dave k in second place) Best fish of the day was a 10lb+ cod for Tommy Ashford.

Keep your eye on the forum as we may have a fun comp on the original reserve date of the 18th April.

Fischer Shield- Flat Fish Only - Sunday 13th March 2010

Well guys, what a cracking day for our first comp of the year and a brilliant turn out to boot. It was great to see so many boats turn out all enthused about chasing down the flats.

Fishing was tough, well i struggled anyway but caught a nice cod of about 5lb for my tea. A few boats found reasonable numbers of dabs and it was good to see 6 plaice weighed in topped by Delboys cracking fish of over 2lb, well done mate! Also a few flounders which are always a useful boost to the bag.

Some boats fished at Dungeness and some on mid channel banks but the boats that stayed local seemed to score the best.

Well done to all that turned out and great to see the new members too. Lets hope the weather and turnout continues through the year. Looking forward to the next one the Commodore Cup in 2 weeks.

Annual “Cod Open” Match Report – Sunday 18th November 2009

Despite experiencing strong northerly winds 3 days prior to the competition a favourable forecast was issued on Saturday evening giving a light westerly breeze.  With this being the club’s 50th anniversary year we were hoping for a good turn out and were not disappointed with thirty six boats entering the competition. This resulted in a prize fund of £800.
Expectations were high as several club boats had landed double figure fish in the previous weeks.
Booking was a smooth simple process, each boat being issued with an information pack and safety tag. All competitors then enjoyed free breakfast rolls, tea’s and coffees provided by fisherwags.
Birse Coastal who are currently engaged in improving sea defences have kindly allowed the club access to their temporary slipway whilst work is progressing on the main slipway.
Three club tractors were provided to launch the boats and cars and trailers were given free parking courtesy of Shepway and Dymchurch Parish Councils.
The majority of the boats opted to fish Kerton Road. Although ideal weather conditions with calm sea’s fishing was very slow to start with. Once the tide started flooding the fish came on the feed. The first radio communication of a cod on board saw all the boat’s re-baited with lug squid and cuttle and fish even harder.
As the tide eased more fish were being caught, but not all cod, the usual dogfish, whiting and pouting plus the odd conger to 40lb.
As 15:30 approached the boats started to lift anchor and head back to Dymchurch for the weigh in. The fish boxes were collected by tractor and trailer and taken back to the club house. With Tim  and Colin on the scales as weigh masters, the fish kept coming. The heaviest 16lb went to Kipper skippered by Dave Porter.  But the overall winner was club member Halcyon skippered by Andrew Fisher and crewed by Paul Wealand and Steve Piper with 12 fish for a weight of 63lb 8oz.
A total of 123 cod weighing 677lb 7oz were brought to the scales.

7 boats entered and im sure there would have been more if the forecast had been better! Having spoke to a few members who did not make it.... ensure you check the comp dates as we'd love to see the numbers increase as well as a good excuse to catch up on fishy stories. There was good sport during the day and species caught include, Cod,Bass,Dab,Whiting,Pouting, Skate & pleanty of dogfish!.

Worthy winner on the day was Lee Hills in No Worries.

2009 1st Comp (01.03.09)

8 boats turned out to fish the first comp of the year with some of the new members making a good show! 2008 Cod Only Open (16.11.08)

After some rough weather in the weeks leading upto the Cod Open the reserve date was very settled and we had a record turnout with 32 boats. It dawned a lovely day and there was a hive of activity on the beach and in the clubhouse as anglers signed in and were provided with free refreshments thanks to the efforts from Kim and Kel. The boats were organised in an orderly fashion thanks to the help of some deadicated memebers working the 3 tractors. With good numbers attending there was plenty to play for and most boats opted to fish the productive grounds off Dungeness with a few boats trying other areas.

On arrival the last of the ebb tide turned up a few fish but most of the action took place once the flood tide got into full swing. There were good numbers of 3-8lb fished weighed in with a few better specimens into double figures.

The weather stayed good throughout and a good days fishing was had by all. 14 out of the 32 boats weighed in 117 fish for a total of 461lb 6oz. There were 2 almost identical fish for the biggest cod prize with the best weighing in at 12lb 8oz.

Rover Cup (01.06.08)

The Rover Cup was fished on a fine day in June with cracking weather. Due to the large numbers of bass being caught recently we decided to fish this competiton on a combined specimen basis to prevent large numbers of fish being bought to the scales. Anglers fished individually and weighed in their best 3 specimens and a combined total was calculated to find the overal standings. Most boats opted to fish the wrecks for a variety of species with others trying out the rough ground. Bass, pollack, pouting, dogfish and cod were brought to the scales. Overall winner with a combined percentage of 155% was Derek Cripps aboard Fifty-Fifty. The complete results are listed below.

Jack Bugg Shield (04.05.08)

We have been struggling to fish our first boat competition of the year due to unsettled weather conditions. There have been several occasions where a bad looking forecast just didn't come true and it has been disappointing to miss out on a few opportunities but as always safety comes first.

However, this weekend was different with a good forecast and lovely weather for a day afloat. 4 boats turned out to fish the reserve date for the Jack Bugg Shield and all opted to target the wrecks given the good fishing during recent weeks. A light easterly breeze gave calm conditions and the boats set off to find the bass and pollack or maybe a cod or two.

Water clarity was far from perfect but the fish were still attacking lures and baits and some lovely bass were brought to the scales. Overall winner was Tim Knight with 8 bass for 43lb including the heaviest fish of 9lb 8oz. Lee Hills was 2nd with 25lb 8oz leaving 3rd place for Derek Cripps.

We did not have enough members fishing to make the comp eligable for the National Susuki Boat League which was dissapointing but we have lots dates now for the coming months . It would be great to get the numbers to make our results count and hopefully see a Dymchurch member in the final!

2007 Cod Only Open (25.11.07)

Despite a marginal forecast for the reserve date of our Cod Open it dawned a lovely day with a gentle north westerly breeze and clear skies. The number of entrants was down on the day due to work commitments and the marginal forecast. 14 boats turned out and were keen to get out and sample the cod fishing which had been pretty hot in the weeks leading up to the event. Some of the entrants had travelled from as far a field as north Kent to fish the competition and it was great to see them visiting Dymchurch.

Booking in took place in the club house where tea and bacon rolls were available to all thanks to the efforts from Kel and Kim. Derek Cripps organised the launch of the boats with the help of Mark Bostock, Mark Franks and Lee Hills (cheers guys) and all boats were safely launched in plenty of time prior to the start time scheduled for 08.30hrs.

13 boats (one boat had to be recovered after engine trouble) set off for the cod just after 8.30am with most heading for Dungeness and one opting to fish east toward Folkestone. On arrival a few cod were feeding in the last of the ebb tide but the run quickly eased and we saw almost no tide for remainder of the event.
