2009 1st Comp (01.03.09)
8 boats turned out to fish the first comp of the year with some of the new members making a good show! With good reports of Cod still being caught the format was changed slightly from the fischer shield(Flat fish only), most boats opted to fish Dungeness. The weather was fine and flat calm sea. What more could you want! The results below speak for themselves but top man on the day was Tim Knight with a cracking fish of 22lb and two other doubles amongst his bag. Not all competitors weighed in but those that did are below.

2008 Cod Only Open (16.11.08)
After some rough weather in the weeks leading upto the Cod Open the reserve date was very settled and we had a record turnout with 32 boats. It dawned a lovely day and there was a hive of activity on the beach and in the clubhouse as anglers signed in and were provided with free refreshments thanks to the efforts from Kim and Kel. The boats were organised in an orderly fashion thanks to the help of some deadicated memebers working the 3 tractors. With good numbers attending there was plenty to play for and most boats opted to fish the productive grounds off Dungeness with a few boats trying other areas.

On arrival the last of the ebb tide turned up a few fish but most of the action took place once the flood tide got into full swing. There were good numbers of 3-8lb fished weighed in with a few better specimens into double figures.
The weather stayed good throughout and a good days fishing was had by all. 14 out of the 32 boats weighed in 117 fish for a total of 461lb 6oz. There were 2 almost identical fish for the biggest cod prize with the best weighing in at 12lb 8oz.

Rover Cup (01.06.08)
The Rover Cup was fished on a fine day in June with cracking weather. Due to the large numbers of bass being caught recently we decided to fish this competiton on a combined specimen basis to prevent large numbers of fish being bought to the scales. Anglers fished individually and weighed in their best 3 specimens and a combined total was calculated to find the overal standings. Most boats opted to fish the wrecks for a variety of species with others trying out the rough ground. Bass, pollack, pouting, dogfish and cod were brought to the scales. Overall winner with a combined percentage of 155% was Derek Cripps aboard Fifty-Fifty. The complete results are listed below.

Jack Bugg Shield (04.05.08)
We have been struggling to fish our first boat competition of the year due to unsettled weather conditions. There have been several occasions where a bad looking forecast just didn't come true and it has been disappointing to miss out on a few opportunities but as always safety comes first.
However, this weekend was different with a good forecast and lovely weather for a day afloat. 4 boats turned out to fish the reserve date for the Jack Bugg Shield and all opted to target the wrecks given the good fishing during recent weeks. A light easterly breeze gave calm conditions and the boats set off to find the bass and pollack or maybe a cod or two.
Water clarity was far from perfect but the fish were still attacking lures and baits and some lovely bass were brought to the scales. Overall winner was Tim Knight with 8 bass for 43lb including the heaviest fish of 9lb 8oz. Lee Hills was 2nd with 25lb 8oz leaving 3rd place for Derek Cripps.
We did not have enough members fishing to make the comp eligable for the National Susuki Boat League which was dissapointing but we have lots dates now for the coming months . It would be great to get the numbers to make our results count and hopefully see a Dymchurch member in the final!

Heaviest fish: 9lb 8oz bass (Tim Knight) 2007 Cod Only Open (25.11.07)
Despite a marginal forecast for the reserve date of our Cod Open it dawned a lovely day with a gentle north westerly breeze and clear skies. The number of entrants was down on the day due to work commitments and the marginal forecast. 14 boats turned out and were keen to get out and sample the cod fishing which had been pretty hot in the weeks leading up to the event. Some of the entrants had travelled from as far a field as north Kent to fish the competition and it was great to see them visiting Dymchurch.

Booking in took place in the club house where tea and bacon rolls were available to all thanks to the efforts from Kel and Kim. Derek Cripps organised the launch of the boats with the help of Mark Bostock, Mark Franks and Lee Hills (cheers guys) and all boats were safely launched in plenty of time prior to the start time scheduled for 08.30hrs.
13 boats (one boat had to be recovered after engine trouble) set off for the cod just after 8.30am with most heading for Dungeness and one opting to fish east toward Folkestone. On arrival a few cod were feeding in the last of the ebb tide but the run quickly eased and we saw almost no tide for remainder of the event.
