Christmas Competition 2007

We had another good turnout at the annual Christmas beach comp. Due to a large competition taking place at Hythe and expected crowds at Dungeness we headed off to St Marys Bay to fish Pirate Springs. Conditions for beach fishing were far from ideal with calm seas and bright sunshine. This coupled with the smallish tide made for difficult fishing with just a few small fish there for the taking. Overall winner with a catch of 5 fish for 1lb 9oz was Tim Knight, including the heaviest fish, a flounder of 9oz. Steve Savage took 2nd place with 4 fish for a total weight of 12oz with Dave Bateman coming 3rd with 2 fish for 9oz. The results really tell the story of the hard fishing, but it was a lovely day to be on the beach and all who entered had a great time. A big thank you to Kev Coker for sorting out the excellent prize table.

Christmas Competition 2006

The annual Christmas beach competition was fished on January 7th 2007 and saw a good turnout despite strong winds blowing from the west. Usually fished at Dungeness it was decided to fish the competition from Pirate Springs in St Marys Bay as the date coincided with the England and European match. The steady westerly wind produced some consistent fishing and most anglers brought fish to the scales. There were plenty of whiting feeding along a few lesser spotted dogfish, the odd dab and a solitary codling of 3lb 6oz caught by Dave Bateman which was the biggest fish landed. Eventual winner was Tim Knight with 15 fish and a total weight of 7lb 5oz. As usual Kev Coker provided an excellent prize table and all anglers went away with a prize. Overall a very pleasant afternoons angling which was enjoyed by all. Apologies for the lack of photographs for this event, the competition fished before the development of the web site.
